A new bit of trailway has opened

In the winter months there is no better place to walk than an old trainline which has been made into a trailway. They are usually raised up (so not wet underfoot) and sometimes gravel tracked. We have walked lots of bits of the old Somerset and Dorset line (S & D ) otherwise known as the Slow & Dirty! The line ran between Bath and Bournemouth from 1875 to 1966. This stretch has been opened between Stourpaine and near Shillingstone
which means you can now walk, cycle or run (if you are completely mad) from Sturminster Newton to Stourpaine.

Wrecks seemed to approve and we walked about 2 miles along the path.
The sign on this gate says "PENALTY FOR NOT SHUTTING GATE £2" That must have been written a long time ago....£2 is nothing now, it would probably say £200!
Signs of spring are just peeping through, I saw catkins like little decorations hanging on a tree and clumps of snowdrops along the lane in the village of Stourpaine. No lambs out in the fields yet, it's still too cold.

A lovely reminder of my recent past spent in the Blackmore Vale, and many a happy walk along the trailway. I'll have to visit again and sample this new piece.

A perfect place to walk. Wish I could pop into the picture and take a walk with you. :-)

We have a disused railway track just round the corner from us and it's the only place we can walk Bella at the moment without her getting covered in mud! :0

Thanks for the info...I could see us trying to cycle part of this if we are ever in the area.
